MASSERIA CISTERNELLA

The breeze that stirs the olive trees, the mild and temperate climate and the sparkle of the sea up to the horizon still animate the countryside today.

he Masseria Cisternella stands on the greenhouse that slopes gently towards the Ionian coast at about 450 m from the Gallipoli-Santa Maria di Leuca coast road.
The name recalls the ancient cistern, where the rainwater that came down from the top of the slope naturally collected.
The availability of a certain amount of water has allowed the establishment over the centuries of a small rural community that dedicated itself to pastoralism;
but, surely, also the "genius loci" inspired the farmer in his choice: the breeze that stirs the olive branches, the mild and temperate climate and the sparkle of the sea up to the horizon, still animate the countryside today and make it a place pleasant and suggestive to stay there.
Thus arose the farm with the houses, the oven, the stables, the enclosures called curti, consisting of dry walls for protection and delimitation.
